Lone: Always Inside Your Head (Greco Roman, Album)

One friend commented that she thought this album nudges into Balearic territory, which I don’t really hear but nor have an issue with if it did. Released back in October of last year, when the days were darker. This definitely makes more sense now as I listen to it bathed in Spring sun. Quite a beautiful record for many reasons beyond the influence nods. Another considered release from the accomplished Nottingham producer. SA

CTRLS: Your Data (Micron Audio, EP)

Detroit’s DJ Stingray re-ignites his dormant Micron Audio imprint for some serious uptempo action. This time Denmark’s CTRLS impresses with some 140BPM electro that neither waits nor cares about the listener’s needs. There’s some pretty interesting sonic detail in the high-speed pursuit. And ‘Subroutines’ is the one that nails it. SA

Kyle Hall: The Phi (Forget The Clock, EP)

Languid deep 4/4 vibes all over this one. No hits, but no misses either. Everything cruises along at its own pace. Loaded with an accomplished sense of restraint and timing. ‘Quake’ stood out, with a more ambient and serene take on house music tropes (‘Cerasee’ came a close second). SA

NTHR1: Awakening (Ganzfeld, EP)

If you’ve ever wondered what Electro from Armenia might sound like. Then guess what, this EP is for you. Actually, could be a nice companion piece to the CTRLS release reviewed elsewhere. Punchy rhythm science nailed to sweeping pads and cliched / comforting melodies that echo and propel. Best demonstrated on the epic title track. SA

Nailbiter & ‘R’: Nailbiter & ‘R’ (Nodding Heads, EP)

Does the world need any more pummelling industrial techno? Well, according to this duo from Toronto, the answer is a resounding ‘Yes’. Serviceable and functional to the extreme. SA
