Council Meeting Memo #044
Ro70: Ro70 (Sister Midnight, Album Reissue)
Brilliantly fun mid-90’s ambient techno reissue reverie. Bursting with zesty melodies, odd time signatures and strange sounds at uneven volumes. A wicked sense of playfulness runs throughout and it hasn’t dated one bit. ‘Room 365’, ‘FM Rhythms’ and ’10 To 10’ are the killer slices. Consume, enjoy, repeat. SA
Slikback: 22122 (Self-released, EP)
Inner harness, woven bands.
Shock absorbing. Penetration resistant.
Do not disassemble.
Do not crush.
Do not open.
Do not puncture.
Do not shred.
Do not short.

Fluids: Not Dark Yet (Hells Headbangers, Album)
I only know one other person who likes this band. No idea why; they’re as good as Mortician and they’ve pushed extreme metal as far as it can possibly go with no silly video nasty references (apart from them riffing on ‘Faces of Death’ for their ‘Fluids of Death’ release) or daft cosmic horror/Lovecraft recycling. Fluids’ focus is the real horror around us and they document it chillingly well. In and amongst the racket of ‘Not Dark Yet’, they use synths, trap beats and hi-hat rolls with some thoroughly appalling skits sampled from the worst that Live Leak, MDPOPE or any other sub-level ‘iceberg’ shit can offer. Carmen Villain: CV x Actress (Smalltown Supersound, Single)
Everyone will go for the Actress remix and with good reason. My mate Elizabeth said “It’s got his distinctive echolalia effects thing going on.” and she’s not wrong. However I preferred the accompanying ‘A Year Ago’, which easily reminded me of early Luomo / Vladislav Delay. And that’s a good thing. SA
Smoke Point: Smoke Point (Geographic North, EP)
This is great, that’s all I can say really. Whatever else I try to come up with, Boomkat said it better….Bastards. SA
