Herva: Seez (Planet µ, Album)

Herva? New name to me. First impressions? Very Autechre. Which Autechre? Oh, the late middle one. How so? Busy percussion, very synthetic, data-rich, lack of obvious repetition, abstract track titles. So an Autechre clone then? Clone is harsh, but if you’re an Autechre fan, this comes highly recommended, it’s invigorating and very enjoyable. First impressions borne out? Yes, with the caveat that Herva’s tracks are shorter, a little more focused, but equally as interesting. CB

Pariah: Caterpillar (Voam, EP)

Always associate Pariah with more languid scenery, recalling his timeless R&S release ‘Safehouses’. There he was all aligned with dubstep and slowed up tempos. But here he crafts three tracks of velocity driven dance that leaves his debut biting digital dirt. The title track is the focus of course but I’d go for the sinister vocal vibes of ‘One On One’. SA

Peaky Beats: Paradise Falls (Lobster Theremin, EP)

Restrained morsels of jungle / garage hybrids with a nice apprecaition for spatial awareness. Loved the buzzing sawtooth shuffle of ‘Tangerine Dream’ and Tim Reaper turns up the heat with his rumbunctious remix of the title track. SA

Jan Bang and Dai Fujikura: The Bow Maker (Punkt Editions, Album)

Occluded sense of night-time, curtains drawn on a large room. Moonlight illuminates dust motes.
Sharp intake of breath, bow drawn, breath held; string straining taut; released, quivering, feinting/fainting.
{Should we pay witness to beauty. What form would that beauty take. Or should we mourn its absence.}
Crepuscular movement, hidden things, shifting erratically, now still.
Mo(u)rning light.
Everything in suspension.
